Your life is a divine gift and worthy of the time and attention you can provide it – especially during challenging times when relationships are troubled, life is confusing and painful, or sadness or fears make coping difficult. It is my goal to create with you a place of safety, understanding, increased awareness and acceptance so that you can experience the changes and healing that you desire.
As a clinical psychologist with a background in psychodynamic therapy and family systems, I use holistic approaches that will focus on your strengths. While I help people with many kinds of challenges and problems, I am specifically trained and experienced in healing from psychological trauma, coping with physical problems or diagnoses, improving relationships and using mindfulness approaches to improve physical, emotional and cognitive functioning. I also have extensive experience and passion for helping college-age students and the many unique challenges involved in navigating early adult life. If you have spiritual beliefs, they will be respected, honored and integrated into the work we do together as well.
While there are many goals that you and I might develop, here are a few that may arise in our time together. They may help you think about what you want to accomplish. § Maintaining your equilibrium: Helping you to keep or regain your “balance” is crucial and often a prerequisite to anything else. We will do this by creating a place of safety for you and a place in which you can be heard. Sometimes laying the issues out in the open is a big part of the solution. § Healing from trauma: I can help you work through past traumas and difficulties that continue to effect you now. Research is showing that helping you to recognize how trauma manifests in your body and working through the trauma in this way is very effective. Specifically, I am trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for trauma and for developmental injury and in Trauma Resiliency. § Coping skills: We may work together to help you develop skill sets to manage difficult life situations, anxiety, depression or other psychological difficulties. Relaxation/mindfulness strategies, identifying and changing harmful thought patterns, and purposefully increasing positivity in your life may help to achieve this. § Increasing understanding/insight/awareness: It may also be useful to work together to increase understanding and awareness of your circumstances. Sometimes a shift in perspective occurs and this can allow you to move forward.
